LONERS examines how emotions and public discourse of loneliness intersect with privacy regulation to rethink how institutions recognize and respond to citizens’ emotions while respecting privacy rights. The ERC Advanced Grant project applies an innovative multi-method inquiry, combining life-story interviews, discourse analysis, multi-sited ethnography, and text-as-data approaches. By mapping emotions across everyday life, crisis, and radical loneliness, LONERS offers insights to help public institutions balance support with privacy in contemporary democracies.
